Domestic Violence Awareness Month

TW: Mention of domestic violence

Welcome back to the blog!

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and It's On Us will be hosting events in October for raising awareness. Stay tuned on our Instagram @itsonuscu or check out the emails if you're on the email list for more information.

So, what is domestic violence?

The National Domestic Violence Hotline describes it as behaviors to maintain power over another in an intimate relationship. This is sometimes done with physical, mental, or emotional harm. Domestic violence does not only affect one gender; 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men have been severely injured as a result of domestic violence in their life.

Why have DVAM?

Having a month dedicated to advocacy and sharing stories empowers survivors to tell their experience and put efforts into ending domestic violence. This process also helps survivors bond with others who have gone through similar experiences.

How can we contribute to DVAM?

If in the Clemson area, ItsOnUs will host events throughout the month.

Overall, you can contribute to DVAM by simply supporting survivors. Listen to them, support them, advocate for resources, etc. At the end of the day, showing your support can be the incredibly helpful in someone's journey.

If you are a survivor of domestic violence, the National Domestic Violence Hotline has available resources by state on their website. They have a call hotline, a live chat, or a text message number. There is also a list of state coalitions if you are interested.

We believe you and support you. If you are in the Clemson area and would like to speak to someone in leadership, you can reach out to anybody in the ItsOnUs team by clicking on About Us.
